So, in my move to hurry and post pics and swatches of SugarPill, I failed to post the details on how the two purples compared.  Well, as I stated before, the purple has a gritty texture, but is a matte finish.  In addition, they aren't similar in that the MUFE #92 has more blue and SugarPill has more red.  What you can do is apply the SugarPill over a black base or try a dark blue base and that should give a similar result.  To be honest, the colors aren't so different that you would need both.  I will reiterate that for us darker skin tones, we need to build (i.e. pack) on the color a bit more than fairer complexions, but this is a good product, and I don't regret my purchase, and I'm looking forward to playing with these colors a bit more.  I'd also like to give both eyeshadows a go against Ben Nye.  I have many of their matte shades, but have put them to the side in order to try and use up the eyeshadows I have.  I really like posting my cosmetics because it reminds me that there isn't anything I cannot dupe with the items I already have.  Time to save that money for other "habits."  Especially, those things which make a great investment and return.

Goodies I have yet to review, swatch and use from the holidays!  I cannot resist trying little things I find in drugstores, especially when they are 40% off!  I don't feel the pressure to swatch since this isn't a blog people read on the daily or at all, but I am loving the idea of having something to take pictures of, and it lets me see what I have.  Soon, I plan on taking pictures of my FOTDs because I've found putting makeup on others is so much easier than applying it to myself.  When you are looking at another's face, it's so much easier to see any uneveness and ensure placement is accurate; however, when I apply it on myself, I can't step back and look at what I've done.  Can't explain it,but it's a goal of mine.  The idea behind this so cool.  On the left side, there are three matte shadows and on the right, are the corresponding shadows in shimmers.  From top left going clockwise: Vanity, Greed, Pride and Lust.  They claim to be highly pigmented.  I hope I'm not disappointed, but with Rite Aid, they will accept returns.  Gotta love that, especially since mattes are typically chalky.  Swatches to come!

I have to confess, I have never liked Physician's Formula Cosmetics.  I found them about ten years ago when I was a neophyte in makeup artistry.  They had models who were circa 1950s pinup, with the svelte figures, bright red lips, cat eye liner, porcelain complexions, and wavy hair.  I wanted to emulate that look on my skin.  I wrote to them and inquired about them having a market for women who had tan to dark skin.  Every other line had at least a shade "Caramel" by this time since Halle Berry had become a spokeperson for Revlon.  I never heard back from them.  Usually, I'd get a "Dear Jane" letter or an auto reply thanking me for inquiring, but Physician's Formula sent me nothing, ever.  To this day I still have not heard from them.  But, it's very true when people say, what goes around...I know this product is new for PF, but it was already clearanced to 75% off!
This product claims to make whatever your eye color, blue, brown, hazel or green, will "POP" with the color combinations.  In their typical style, it is broken into three categories, neutral, playful and dark.  They all  look the same, the last three are the deepest shades, but still varied versions of the same color.  I don't have green photographed, but it's got some nice blue and green shades.  None of them are spectacular, but the payoff/pigment is better when you apply wet.  I would not recommend this product, as the pigmentation takes work, and I don't believe a product should be layered, applied with a darker/lighter base, with a mixing medium, etc.  I must say the L'Oreal singles have a much better payoff than these shadows, and if you slightly bump or drop this, it's gone!

Every time I see the words "Santa Baby" I hear that Song Madonna did.  I know all the words but this year I don't think I played any Christmas music.  I enjoy Christmas songs, but not in December.  I'm an odd bird in that sense.
So, I heard about this from the sales person/stockist and he told me they would be on sale, so he set a pair aside for me.  They were only $5.99 plus tax, so I would feel really bad, not purchasing them with the buy one get one.  Even though I know Boxing Day they would be even less.  I am a sucker, but Wet N Wild has raised the bar on drugstore products.  I was highly impressed with the pigmentation and color texture of some of their other limited edition shadows.  I don't know why manufacturers opt not to keep consistent with products, it would benefit them in terms of revenue and reputaiton greatly.  This came with 12 shadows, one lip gloss and a mascara.  The lip gloss and mascara is useless unless you want them for carry ons in your purse.  When I tried the mascara it looked grey.  It didn't do much other than coat my lashes, but I expected as much.  Overall, I am pleased with this purchase, However, I know I won't reach for this much.  It's quite gimmicky.  In addition, I must add that this style of trio will be something you will see more of from Stila for Spring 2010.  It's the same as the Barbie Palette I posted months back.  This collection is not a must have, but it is a great stocking stuffer, gift, or item for anyone on a budget.  The cool palette is highly recommended for darker skinned lovelies.

I guess I am doing my end of the year shopping.  When I got the Revlon PhotoReady, the nice lady at the store was putting these on display. They were $6.99 and, of course, buy one get one free.  The pictures are a tad dark; however, this is not something I would tell anyone to run out and get.  It is in a gel form, and does not state that it is "eye safe" which poses a concern for me.  In addition, you would really have to layer or use this as an eyeshadow gloss for an evening out.  A rare evening out, like New Year's or Halloween because it's really an odd concept.  Creme eyeshadow would never be so sheer, and it doesn't stay sticky.  In addition, glitter would not be so sparse, which once this is sheered out with a brush or fingers, there's no glitter, and the glitter isn't like other glitters which sparkle and catch your eye, it's rather muted.  Imagine taking hair gel, and putting craft glitter and shaking it up.  Well, that's what this has the texture of.  I waited for it to dry but not too long as I wanted to return it and ask that they take it off their shelves.  I wouldn't give this to my neice to play with on her dolls or use to make me crafts or artwork to hang on my ice box.  This product is one of the worst attempts at becoming new or innovative and to be honest, most of what Milani has been doing since it pulled their original line has left me unimpressed.  I would not recommend, repurchase or even blog about this, but I hope it saves another makeup addict their "allowance" and not be suckered like me.

In the spirit of the upcoming holiday season and the passing of Halloween, I was thinking about how pretty some of the looks were in an effort to celebrate ghouls and gobblins.  So many vampires, so little time. A friend was enquiring about there not being any eyeshadows that would look smart on brown skin.  Well...not so fast!  I found three in a manner of seconds which can all be seen and are quite pigmented.  From left to right I swatched the red from the 88 shimmer palette, bright fuschia (MAC) pigment, brash and bold/bold and brash? (MAC) pigment, and basic red (MAC) pigment and each of them show up against my dark skin, so let not your heart be troubled brown girls, there is enough color in the world for all of us :)  I know, I know, MAC!! But, the 88 shimmer palette is EVERYWHERE ('scuse the shouting), and it's quite inexpensive.  Other brands I've seen with red include: Ben Nye, Bloody Mary, and Kryolan.  I believe all of the mineral makeup vendors: TKB Trading, Fyrinnae, MAD, et al, will also carry samples with the color red.  Enjoy your day!

MAC FALL 2009 Architectural

Hmm...
I know I love makeup and I've heard it called, warpaint, spackle, instant pretty, and heard it takes a blow torch, sandblaster etc. for some of us heavy handed to get it off, but I never heard of makeup being architectural.  On the other hand, since it is "art" it would suffice to say it's not too far off.  Well, I didn't know about this collection since I've been so obsessed with Style Black so, I was happy to stumble across the following article:
As cosmetic brands continue to shift towards the ‘green movement’ with plant, flower and fruit-inspired products, MAC has taken a completely different approach.
Coming this fall, MAC will introduce its Fall/Winter colors that were inspired by architectural design and shades. Even the shapes and steely packaging are an expression of this idea and are sure to shift the trend in the industry.
The new Fall/Winter colors from MAC will be available September 17, 2009.

What's getting scary to me, is that when I see certain collections, I think of people who would look amazing in the collection. This one screams of the talented Pixiwoo duo Samantha and Nicola Chapman.  Those girls are so talented as makeup artists, but I wonder why they aren't models...I guess when you are beautiful, talented and quite successful within your own right, you don't really need to rely on your looks solely. Lassies like me, that's all I do knowing full well no amount of makeup is going to make me look like a model nor a celebrity, but that's why we all have different talents, right?  So, now I need to decide how I'm going to get back on the "no-buy" wagon after this and Style Black.

I cannot believe I let MAC dupe me not once, but twice! I fell in love...maybe lust, but I do still love the theory when I look at it.  I saw "Beauty Marked" and thought I heard angels sing.  It is like no other color I have and I have a lot of shadows.  If my shadows were all turned to cocaine, there would be enough to last every addict and their mom until the second coming.  I loved the sparkles, and the incomparable pinot noir shade of burgandy with silver reflects against the black backdrop.
Unfortunately, the color is black.  Not even a good black, a slate black.  No burgundy, not even a tinge of purple, or plum.  I thought I got a bad batch; so, I went and purchased another. Same thing again.  So, I bought bases in: black, purple, burgundy, pink, silver, white, et al in order to find the "right" combination to make it work.  Bullocks!  I am not paying that sort of quid for something I have to "tweak."
I have been looking for a color to match the infamous Beauty Marked for a long time and I finally found it.  I was at the Galleria one day, perusing the cosmetics and fragrances, when I saw the Bare Minerals Boutique and a lovely sales assistant/makeup artist named "Jessie."  He was so divine.  I saw him and could not resist playing with his pigments.  I was always a bit intimidated to go into the actual boutique, as all of the lids are away and it's wall to wall open jars of pigments.  I keep imagining someone sneezing or a big wind, and it makes me uncomfortable.  Much like when I was a wee girl and mum would say, "Don't touch!" anytime I looked at items in the store.  Flashbacks!
Roll tape, and I see a color that looks like my coveted Beauty Marked and I asked to have it immediately upon swatching it.  It was my Beauty Marked!  All this time, and money spent trying to fix her and she was waiting for me to find her.  Then it happened, he told me it was out of stock and gave me a hint of a sample.  I didn't even use it because I was afraid I would never have it.  Scarcity factor in full effect.  He gave me his card, took my name and number and promised to call me when it came in.  So, I immediately called every store which carries Bare Minerals in the state of California.  Well in my region and fifty miles surrounding.  Nothing!  Well, I found it at their sight and it was in stock and it was everything for me to not purchase two.  When something is that hard to find, there's usually a reason, and discontinued was all that I could think of.  But, I only got one, and I'm loving it.
This is a swatch without base also.  I used the "sample" and took what was on the finger above and swatched her on my arm.  Love at first sight!  I can use this in so many ways, this is something I can't believe anyone hasn't been enamoured with.  Well, considering how hard to find it is, I understand, but I'm not in the "scene" of beauty writers, bloggers, reviewers, editors and hadn't heard about it.  Oh well, it's our secret *wink*

To accept the things I cannot change and the money to accept the things I can.  I accept that I am a makeup addict.
I am going to have a big birthday next month.  It will be a year of blogging, and will mark that I can be consistent with at least one hobby and I am so proud of myself.  I am thinking about being consistent in something for the forthcoming year as well.  It's all about me, since I have to live with me, all my flaws, mistakes, etc. are constant reminders that I am not perfect.
So, with my acceptance, I am admitting I am obsessed with yet another palette.  The thing is, I already have a great version of said palette. See that photo?  I have the six eyeshadow palette and individuals (large) of the other six shadows, plus six more in different colors, 12 pigments, and over half a dozen mattes.  I cannot remember the last time I used this palette or any of the other items from Ben Nye.  Not because the products aren't good.  They are stellar, this is a line established for theatre and clown makeup.  It's amazing!  The pigmentation is great, payoff is amazing and I don't compare it to any other brand per se; however it's a great palette for darker toned women.  It sucks that I have to categorize women, but there aren't many products which chocolate girls can rock without layering products.
I am tempted though...I have received e-mail from Beauties-Factory I had ordered the Manly palette some time ago, so the seller still sends me sales and product information.  I mean they have all my addictions in one place: nails, eyelashes, makeup brushes, eye shadows, rouges, hair!  What's a girl to do?

Admit she is an addict!
So, for $29.99 (I got a deal) this bad boy is en route to my home, to have a cozy space made for it next to it's other orphaned family of pretty colors.  Sometimes, it's okay to give in to temptation.  I will now, seek assistance, the final step in admitting I need intervention.

I went to Ross today on the quest for a winter wrap to wear in the office since today was the close of summer here in the USA.  I saw a few cool shoes, but passed on them since they weren't anything over the top.  For me, that means, it has to be incredibly different than what I already own, and my black pumps are morphing into the same look right about now.  I cannot believe I found the most pigmented eyeshadow palette for less than $3.00 USD!  It's so yummy I can't wait to play in it.  For some odd reason, it's easier for me to "pop the cherry" of cheap products rather than the upper or high end products.  It's like wearing your new school clothes before school.  I'm twisted, but it's just me and I accept that I have no rhyme for that reason.  Behold:

I have been collecting Jessie's girl cosmetics for a good while now. When I began they didn't have names, as they were not popular; however, with the advance in social networking the word has gotten out about this brand. I have taken a picture, albeit not too clear (work in progress) for your viewing pleasure. The colors are as follows:
From left to right:

Top row: Baby Blues; Trouble Maker; Penny Arcade; Pixie Dust; Key Lime; Mardi Gras; Blue Moon.

Middle row: Pink Glitz; Antique Green; Fruit Punch; Peek a Boo Violet; Peek a Boo Red; Sparkle Gold; Sunstone.

Bottom row: LE Christmas 08; Ultraviolet; Indian Summer; Cafe' au Lait; Blackstar Barbie; LE Christmas 08; Majestic.

Pros: Inexpensive at $3.99 USD each, goes on smooth, very pigmented, really pigmented when applied wet, finely milled.

Cons: Very difficult to find, some do not have names; you have to notate the SKU number for backups.

Overall: I hate to compare these as they are a drugstore line; however, they are really a great deal. I like them a lot more than NYX; however, I find them as good or equal to MAC but the difference is these don't have the binders in them which make MAC pigments seem more chunky and press with alcohol alone.

Another product I am happy to have found was this little number from Claire's. This palette was on sale for about $3.50 USD total and I like it more than my 88 palette in terms of payoff. I have the shimmer palette and I reckon I get confused with the terms (i.e. shimmer, extra shimmer, frost, pearl, veluxe pearl, etc.) and I think I purchased the shimmer-almost-glitter-disco-ball version because though the texture is smooth I find when I use that palette people at my work can't stop staring at my eyes, or the reflection the eyeshadow is creating under the lights. It's not a look of "Wow, you look nice" but rather a "Wow, that's some color you got there" and I am too old and simple for that.

I used this palette and it has just the right amount of shimmer and though it looks cheap, it's really quite nice in payoff. They are a wee bit larger than MAC so, depotting is not a good idea. I can swatch any and all if the interest exists. I hope this has been beneficial. I hate to admit, Christmas is straight around the corner and these make great stocking fillers or gifts for teens!

Budget Finds!

I have been collecting Jessie's girl cosmetics for a good while now. When I began they didn't have names, as they were not popular; ...
Hello Beautiful Ones,
I hate Wednesdays...but I love makeup and I'm really trying to curb my enthusiasm for products, but bloomin h*ll, I go to Nordstrom's and they have this collection entitled, "Jazzclub" on display.
I must admit, I have never been into Christian Dior nor have I owned anything other than a few fragrances by this line *cough, price tag, cough* but I am all about the roaring 20's. I don't know if it's because of the style of dress, the elegance of the women and the mens Zoot suits but despite the depression, everything about that era appeals to me.
Granted, what I know has been via films, books and replicas and not all that shiny is glitter, but hey, a lot of women have expressed an era they wish they had experienced or one they feel suited their style best, and the 70s afros, bell bottoms and music didn't inspire me ever! I know a lot of kittens who can do the 80s Madonna, Flashdance, Neon, leggings, etc, but that era and I = epic fail. So, inspired by Josephine Backer and Dorothy Dandridge, I fell for the 20s and 3os and can rock a pin curl like no ones business. Yes, I bragged, what? I have to have something that I can rock, you all can't just floss and expect me to sit down can you? Don't answer, it's about this:Don't tell me you can't see yourself sporting this lovely number? A clutch inspired palette? Get the fack out of here! Come on now...what's a girl to do! Oh, you aren't the clutch type? That's sweet, they got you, here you go:

A palette with purples, buttery soft and no where near chalky. I understand why so many felines were pawing this little number. I got a swipe in, and it's so pigmented. I only tried the purple, as I try to maintain calm, cool and composed at Nordstrom because they don't play there. I have seen them "escort" women out for getting stupid over those monthly MAC releases and I'm not trying to lose favor with any sales assistance until Friday "cha-ching" so, yep it's on hold for me, and straight away after work, no cocktails, no chat over tea, it's about:
losing my virginity to Monsier Dior. We have a date and I'm going to be Anita Bryant and make sure I am "Giving him the best that I got" which is $25.00 nail varnish, $56.00 for the palette and $65.00 for the clutch, BUT it's my first, and your first time is supposed to be the best, and most memorable, so that dent in my check? I will remember it for 2 weeks to come. No credit cards=no lunches, cocktails, or movies. I guess I should make an account on Match.com for a dinner or movie *shrug* Besos!

Hello Beautiful Ones, I hate Wednesdays...but I love makeup and I'm really trying to curb my enthusiasm for products, but bloomin h*ll, ...

Sort of....
Hello my beautiful friends, I have not used my Engaging mineralized eyeshadow from a prior MAC collection. I'm not sure that it isn't permanent however, this is my review.

The good:
The texture wasn't as gritty as I expected from a MES. I usually have fallout to no end and look a hot mess, especially for summertime and the heat. I don't embrace the look of having a fairy explode on the face but this was quite nice. I am getting used to having my photo taken so mind my expression of depression, the light was harsh as you can see a shadow :)
The bad:
Although the shimmer was not fallout heaven, I think one should really save this for evenings as it's still summer (come on autumn) and the shimmer can be a bit overpowering during the daytime, but that has nothing to do with the quality of the product.
The verdict:
Overall, I am pleased with this purchase. The good thing about neutrals in a mineralized eyeshadow is you can also use them as a rouge, highlight, contour or bronzer...just not all at once :)

Kittens!
I hope you had a brilliant weekend. I am in the process of moving my office so I apologize for the delay in posting; however, I have a big surprise for you all.
I have been obsessed with this Limited Edition Acid palette from Sleek Cosmetics. I have been contacting the company to find out when they will be distributing in the United States and thus far, no joy.
What's a cat to do? I am going all out to appease myself with alternatives until I can get my paws on the real deal.
I have found the closest images I can find thus far, and I will have to go to Hot Topic to get colors close to what they have in that palette. Here's what I have come up with:

If you have the same eye for colors, you can see, per their website, these colors may work as dupes until I can get the real version.
I plan to go to Hot Topic tonight straight after work, I hope I'm not let down and these have decent payoff and aren't chalky. I will report back asap!

Have a wonderful Tuesday!
