Don't you just love Instagram? I mean where else can you go to feel like you live in a fishbowl? I used to be very motivated by what I saw. Now, I look at these girls and wonder, "Where the hell are you going looking like that so early?"
I see more thirst from the attractive women that it concerns me. I don't like getting all made up unless it's a special occasion, but I'm talking about girls with their "girls" out, dresses the length of baby tees and spiked heels. I will never purchase Christian Louboutins! When a certain caliper of people are sporting a brand that's when I know it's time for me to keep moving. It's like when Ross and TK Maxx began carrying Marc Jacobs and Yves St. Laurent. It feels ratchet.
After watching a bunch of over caffeinated self entitled beauty gurus on the Internet. It's always fun to see someone complain about not receiving free gifts on time from public relations brands. It's interesting how people can be so selfish during a time of year that we are meant to be celebrating the birth of Christ.

So, I played around with some indie brand lip lacquers. I would not recommend them, but I will notify the person that there are a few tweaks, but the packaging, and colours are really nice. It's a difficult time to be starting a new makeup company but I do enjoy playing. She didn't send it to me, she wanted me to try it and host a party. I'd love to but I'm out here on my own and haven't made any friends. I was thinking about what I would have started as a small business right now. There are so many things I enjoy but I cannot keep up with all the new palettes, lipsticks, new brands, hair extensions, and boutiques. What would you do if you had an idea for a small business? Beauty? Hair? Clothing? Share with me...

I confess!  I am a "little monster" I don't want to admit it, but something about this artist is intriguing.  It took me a long time to get past her "image" but in time, I listened to the sound that came from that tiny diaphragm and was also impressed with her live show.  Who doesn't love GaGa?
I didn't love her enough to buy the lipstick yet, but I did get a sample of it.  The artist had just opened the tube, and cut me a piece from the lower end of the lipstick and let me take it home to try it.  You all have read reviews, seen swatches, tried it on etc., but a lot of women with darker skin tones haven't seen what it looks like on brown skin.  So, in honor of us "foxy browns" and gave it a whirl.

(powder donuts? crack?)

I feel like that guy Chris Rock played that was a crack addict.  Some things just need not be done.  So why the post? Well, to back my previous statement before.  Sometimes we have to play the hand we're dealt.  Not every shade, no matter how great the packaging, the artist behind it or the hype surrounding it, just doesn't justify dropping a huge chunk of change to "make it work."  Seriously, if they were giving it away?  By all means go for it, but buying something that doesn't fit just to alter it with layering, mixing, etc. is silly.  Why do that when you know the likelihood of you reaching for it is slim to never due to all the steps you have to take?  What's more, after you've done all the "tweaking" it's not the same color!  So when someone compliments you and says, "Hey Cherub what color is that?"  You apprehensively tell them it's Viva Glam GaGa.  They give you a look that says, "Are you sure?  Mine looks nothing like that."  Then you tell them you lined your lips with "X" then layered it with "X lippie" and then topped it with "X gloss" and by the time you look up they are long gone.  Yep...my point exactly.
The bottom line:  Don't waste money on a product just because of the hype.  There are so many other colors available, it's okay to "pass" on a few items.  Aren't you worth it?  Cosmetic companies work for the consumer, so if you don't buy they get the message.

Cherubs!
I have been shopping my stash in an effort to curb my spending. I have more lipsticks than I can use so this week I am rotating the following lipsticks this week.
I encourage any of you who are really feeling stuck in a rut with your lipstick to do the same. It's so tempting to grab that new shade of red, you know the one Kiera Knightley wore in The Edge of Love, you remember? Or the one I saw... I think in order to do this not only will I have to shop my stash, I am going to limit my time engaging forums, tutorials and videos online.
For some odd reason, I don't see this as working because I'm inspired by magazines, television and my imagination. As I type I'm looking at a commercial and I've already color matched and focused on a nice bold lip to bring out her lovely high cheekbones. I truly think we are all beautiful and sometimes we can just have a touch of sprucing up and go from simple, to simply fab with the stroke of a blush...er...brush :)

From left to right:
black cherry
bing cherry
rose hip (love)
cocoa butta
sierra spice
caramel (nice nude)
These are great quality for less than $4.00 USD at Walgreen's. I am not a connoisseur of lipstick. As long as it goes on smooth, is not drying and is not sheer, I'm content. So, for me, I recommend Milani's lipsticks. The one thing I noticed however, they are true to time when it comes to expiry. They go rancid in the 6-12 month time frame depending on the season. Summer has been hard on my Milanis I would not suggest these for storing unless it's in the freezer.

Hello Beautiful!
Happy Wednesday to you all! Summer is winding down, and although I am looking forward to sporting my A/W2009 vamp lips, I am really feeling the pink. I reckon it's due to a film I watched with the lovely Camilla Belle (why did I not have a clue who she was? ahem...J. Jonas and R. Pattz go girl!) and Elisha Cuthbert called The Quiet. Pink is the new black for me right now. Kimmy did it:

So did Xtina:

I love RiRi:

Everyone's having a go!

My turn!

OCC Liptar in Pageant!
If you are daring and want to give it a go, try Show Orchid, Girl About Town or Saint Germain by MAC. For budget bound beauties you have 511B by Wet N Wild or Rose Hip by Milani.

Hey Cherubs,
There is a misconception that red lips only look good on "certain" women. I am here to dispose that myth. The only thing you need to wear red lipstick is CONFIDENCE! It takes confidence to pull off red lips. I will agree there are factors to consider when sporting a bold red lippie, but the fear of the red lip is greater than the actual wearing a red lip.
As creatures of habits, we tend to stick with things in our comfort zone. In that same vain, soft pinks, neutrals, and anything that is viewed as soft is what we tend to feel we look our best in. Add to that the attention bold or bright colors tend to arose, it's natural for people to get nervous about wearing a bold red lip. So, today I'm going to give you some tricks to help you rock the red lip.

First of all, reds come in a wide range of shades ranging from yellow based to blue. An example of a yellow based red, is an orange red. Blue based tend to be brick red almost, think of a red Gwen Stefani would wear. The colors in between range from strawberry red to rasberry red and so on.
Next, teeth play a very important role. If you are wearing a yellow/orange based red, your teeth are going to look YELLOW. That's not a bad thing, the only people with winter white teeth, are those who have used chemical agents or had dental procedures to remove the stains from their teeth. Teeth change color due to trauma, aging, diet, tobacco, caffiene, etc. It's normal so don't be embarassed, just go to the store and get some white strips, mouthwash, or hydrogen peroxide if you are uncomfortable with your teeth.
The next tip is to make sure your skin is as close to flawless as possible. I don't mean you need perfect skin, but if you are having a particulary bad day and your skin is being tempermental, forego the red lipstick for another day. Not that bad skin=boring lipstick, if you're confident, go for it! But to those of us who are a bit new to bright, bold lips, not having too much going on on the rest of the canvas is a way to avoid doing a belly flop from the deep end.
What you'll need is a base/concealer, a red lip liner and your favorite red lipstick.
Assuming you have already exfoliated and moisturized your pucker, dab some concealer or foundation lightly over your lips. You want to cancel out any pigment and start with a clean base. Pat the concealer lightly and make sure your lips are somewhat dry. Take your lip liner and trace your lips being careful not to go out of your natural lip line, this will cause the lipstick to bleed or feather. Once you've traced your lip line lightly fill your lips in with the same lip liner. The next step is to take the lipstick (ensuring it's the same shade as the lipliner) and apply it to your lips. You can use a brush, apply it from the tube, dab it, whatever you feel comfortable doing. Now, take a tissue and place it between your lips and gently press your lips onto the the tissue. This step is what you need to ensure your not left with lipliner and no lipstick as you go about your day. Now, once again, apply the lipstick and you're done!
* Red lipstick is thought to be a risky look for daytime, but if you wear it right (i.e. neutral face) you can go boardroom to bedroom without raising a brow.

Meow for now,

Okay,
So I broke my no buy...the girls at makeupalley told me I would, especially if I logged on to the website. Well, I did, no harm no foul since, I'll be making a MAC purchase this week, details to come.
I had seen adverts for the Max Factor Vivid Impact Lipcolor, but Gisele Bündchen's look didn't strike me as anything special, but I must admit to being intrigued. Then, I saw Katy Perry and was impressed and decided that since I found it for 50% off at Walgreen's I could justify cutting back a trip to Starbucks for a new lippie. They have a great color range, twenty so far and retail for $9.00 USD. I admit drugstores are moving up to department stores (MAC) when it comes to their pricing, but until MAC has 1/2 off, I can work with this.
The texture is quite comparable to MAC's amplified creme in that it goes on creamy and thicker than a sheer lipstick, and it doesn't drag. It doesn't wear all day, but I find 16 hour wear lippies to be VERY drying. If you're not ready to splurge just yet, I highly recommend visiting their website as I got some inspiration to do different makeup looks. Just click and enjoy!

Meow for now kittens!

Hey Gorgeous!

Who killed Jenny Schecter? Well, I really did enjoy the L-word. I was in Long Beach, California the first time I had ever seen the show. I was visiting my best friend and going through a horrible breakup, and this show caught my eye and I was addicted from then on. I was rather pathetic come to think of it, lying around all day, crying in my tea wondering why he left, was I pretty? Blech!

I was looking online for some items for my kit and voila, Three Custom Colors, had the L word lippies right here and you have to love the names and descriptions for each. My fave? Shane, "so neutral it's commitment free!" That is my girl right there! Go Shane, I am not mad at you, but I did take it personal when you left Carmen, but no worries love!
