I am not one of those "Big Named Bloggers" but I feel quite guilty for not posting for the few lovely people who do read this blog.  I get nothing from any company, never endorse anything I haven't used and truly like.  So, that said, I am in a huge funk.  I don't know if it's Mercury in retrograde, or just life.  This week has been wretched in so many ways.  I have stated I struggle with having a blog and posting about such superficial things.  But, I needed an outlet that was something I could a) have control over and b) communicate and share with others, and c) journal and account for myself and goals for myself.  I don't spam, ask for plugs, or try to gain anything for myself.  I don't like television, I don't have cable, and I'm a bit off on YouTube.  This is my little space where I don't have to adhere to any terms of service, rules about posting and no cliques.
I have been sick with the news about Haiti and I cannot seem to shake it.  My way of dealing with negativity is to avoid it, but there is no way to avoid this and I shouldn't.  I admit I didn't know much about Haiti and that is my own fault.  I have been and seen life in third world countries and it doesn't go away.  Mission work is rarely a permanent solution to a serious problem, but it's something.  I always felt my life was good but nothing great. But I have never experienced the level of despair the people of Haiti, and other impoverished countries feel. My boss has been a nightmare to me this week and has made it clear she wants me gone.  I'm gutted, but I feel selfish for feeling so blue when I see the footage of Haiti.  I cannot stand to see anyone in physical, emotional or spiritual pain.  When I see, read, or observe the death toll, the stories and photos of the injured I feel powerless.  What can I do other than to donate?  Nothing.  I cannot offer comfort, a hug, or hold a child who's scared.  Prayer, money and wait until the next crisis somewhere in the world happens.  Fortunatley, my job enables me to be a part of the solution, but it's like putting out fires, you have another one waiting in the wings.  I don't know why things happen like this, and to a country who's historically disadvantaged is sad when here in the states, we are upset when we have to wait for coffee, or can't get our limited edition (fill in the blank).  I am so happy God has blessed me with what very little I have.  I don't deserve it but each day he has mercy on me, and the challenges I endure are nothing.  Sure, I may not be the "dime piece", have the luxury "ride", the best body, or any cyber celebrity, but I am compassionate beyond belief, and I care about others and try to be a better, more improved me each day.  I just needed to post what I've been feeling the past few days and apologize for my lack of consistency.  My mother is in the advanced stage of a terminal illness, my job has turned from a blessing to a nightmare, and I'm alone in the USA when it comes to friends or social outlets.  I'm quite blessed if this is all I have to worry about.  Pray for all those suffering here and a far.  Never feel like you are insignificant.
xoxo

I have always thought of myself to be one of the most patient tolerant people.  I accept everyone regardless of race, religion, sexuality, carnivore, vegan, atheist, et al.  I have learnt I don't.  I temper my views and opinions and have chosen to remove any person, place or thing which causes me anything other than positive experience, or a negative but learning experience.  Well...I guess the more I eliminate and detox from the more critical I am.  I don't enjoy this about myself; however, I do feel the need to explain.
I have spent a LARGE part of my time learning new skills, techniques, terminology, styles etc when it comes to all things beauty, fashion and hair.  If there is a forum, I've either joined or perused it at one time or another.  I've always been open to learning.  But, lately I have no tolerance for these social outlets.  I find there to be a lot more b.s. than previously.  If not, I must have been oblivious.  I have gotten to the point where I don't log on to YouTube (which babysat me when I moved to California), most forums unless it's for pictures, sale info. or product reviews, and now I'm not interested in many of blogs.  I don't subscribe to thousands, but I do love to learn from others and think it's a great way to (again) challenge myself and my learning curve.
I don't know what to do...I don't condone some of the rubbish (hater vs. non hater vs. criticism, gurus who are full of crap, themselves or both and the racist, homphobic, and ignorant comments many gurus deal with.  Seriously, I read Pixiwoo's disclaimer re: black skin and thought, "Can we not say black, white, ...skin anymore?"  Not that I have an account, but it's not fun anymore.  Not to mention the shilling, competitiveness and backbiting gurus do to each other.
I ran to forums and most topics were slagging and dissing other peoples style, makeup, technique, shape, etc. and it all got too much for me.  I guess the internet is something I may have to rethink.  I'm truly blessed to have learnt so much from people I have never met in my life who spend a lot of their time doing things to my benefit, but seriously calling a man a "f*gg*t" for educating people on makeup application, telling a black woman she's an "ugly n*gg*er" or a forum post just to gossip about someone else who we don't know seems so pointless.
Speaking of pointless, so was this post, but I need to vent every now and again.  I cannot change the world, but I can acknowledge things I wish to change.

I think back about all the things which transpired in the last week and it makes me physically and mentally sick.  I have found out more about my inner strength, ability to forgive and my perseverence through hard times.  A car accident, both parents in hospital, a hacked e-mail account, an imposter posing for "dates" and having to listen to people I don't know accuse me of things I didn't do whilst looking at my face which has two blackened eyes and give me the piss!  I got so down, all the things I enjoy I began to rethink.  I love to blog since I love to write and I can look back and see where I was in my life at certain points.  I am not receiving anything, nor am I competing to be the next best thing, I just have a place to vent, share, discuss, learn and participate in the evolution of me.   I am not perfect, but I am wonderfully flawed and beautifully imperfect and I love that most about myself.  I don't want to be anyone else, but me.  I love trying new things, creating new styles which reflect how I feel and experiencing things which bring me joy, sorrow, and challenge me to think.  A thesis is a compilation of ideas and experiences which support who I am.  I love beauty in all it's forms.  I can be superficial and think something at New York Fashion Week is amazing, but that doesn't mean I can't buy clothes at a consigment store.  I love to experiment with makeup, but I like being able to wear none, touch my face and work on my skin.  It's all a part of learning, growing and maturing.
I don't know much about astrology, but it seems like this past week was one of Mercury being in retrograde.  I can't say for sure, but it's been strange.  I saw a squirrel get hit by a car and I was devastated!  I wanted so badly to turn my car around and help him, but due to the location it was not feasible, and he may have attacked as he was in so much pain.  No one should ever see something like that, but I am quite proactive.  I researched about squirrels and why they run into traffic.  It's suicidal but they do it.  I guess Chester died from internal injuries since I went back and he was gone *sad* but I know this happens a lot.  I am the sensitive type, I can't look at any carcus on the pavement which has been hit and to be honest, I sped up to the guy that hit the squirrel, but he was oblivious.
The incidents of the week had me see things for what they are and not as I want them to be.  Things which used to control a large part of my energy are less important.  I'm wearing an outfit to work I wore two weeks ago.  That would not have happened, as I love to dress and change my looks often.  I thought it was due to my love of style and creativity, but not wanting to wear clothes more than once and I'm not a celebrity tells me I need to check my ego (easing God out) and think about things that will matter in the long run.  No one cares what I wear, so doing it for me is one thing, but have an ego about it is something I learned.  I am quite humble, but I guess there is more than life after MAC, Christian LaBoutin, Canons, Ikea, shopping, big cities, etc.

Okay,
I have loads of flaws and insecurities and I don't know if they will go away in time, if it's neurosis or lack of faith and acceptance for who I am, but I hate my eyes. I don't mind the color, but the whites of my eyes have never been white, so I don't like to post FOTDs because my eyes are horrid and I have a problem with comparing myself to others. I had looked online and was *this close* to scheduling an appointment for a surgical procedure to be done by a doctor at the Seer Institute in Korea until I found something closer. Behold the issue:

To others it may seem insignificant, overreacting or shallow, but I hate looking tired, high or like I've been crying. I spent too much on drops and tried every homeopathic detox, diet, and capsules from here to China. I hate them, they are staring at me like I'm sad or pathetic and it seems to haunt me and prevents me from sharing looks with friends, like you all.
So, I was browsing the web again and found Dr. Brian and feel like he may be a godsend but am trying not to get too excited.
I've contacted his office and "Jen" seems so caring and responsive, and I'm not an easy person to convince. I have done serious research and he's been mentioned and a forum wrong diagnosis and nothing bad yet...so, I am now obsessed with this procedure.
Don't worry, I'm still waiting to hear from my ophthalmologist and even wrote to a client of his who's had some success.
I resent myself for being shallow, but is it wrong to want to fix something that plagues you? I worry I may be starting something that I cannot stop. The beauty industry is so discriminating and look at all these celebs who think they look better with a few "touch ups" and now look altered. Pray for me!!!

You become the kind of person who can live at peace with others"~peace prophet

I know we can't make people like or accept us, but for some odd reason, I don't like to let people down, and I don't take rejection very well. I knew when I began blogging it was my blog, about me, and for me, but that's not true. I want to share myself with others, my joys, my love of fashion and all things beauty and girly and possibly inspire someone else.

Recently, I posted about a topic that is quite controversial and I knew I may lose one of the nearly dozen of you who are kind enough to follow. To be honest, I didn't think anyone read, since I try not to track or look at the numbers. I would have stopped blogging a long time ago if it were about numbers here. I held a contest where all one had to do was leave a comment and they would get a free gift because I was not feeling eBay but needed to purge my stash. Well, the extra money was sweet so, it's not all bad.

I offended a follower and they decided to unsubscribe. I don't mind that someone unsubs, people have a right to do, say, think etc. how they feel. If I am not one's cup of tea, by all means, there are millions of other blogs out there, if you ask me what one's would suit you best, tell me about you and I can give you several.
So, what is eating me alive is that I offended someone. I don't care to do that, but I believe in tolerance and intolerance of anyone based on sexual preference is not something I can accept regardless of my personal beliefs. I don't have a heaven or hell to put anyone in and I cannot tell anyone how to live their life or who to find happiness with, hell I don't have any right to judge as I have made more mistakes than I care to mention and when I open my mouth a bone falls out so my skeletons are busting at me sides.
I guess I'm disturbed because I believe what I do, but I never intended to hurt anyone of offend them. I merely appreciate the people who put the public service announcement and respect them for having the stones to put it on the web. I apologize for offending anyone and would not intentionally do so, but if you cannot understand my disclaimer and why, then I accept your decision but please know this is not a blog about judgment or discrimination unless it's immoral, illegal or hurtful to others. Have a beautiful day!

Hmm....
I have had great success in getting rid of the makeup I purchased which has never been used. The duplicates were embarassing. I didn't blog about it but I was a bit down. I know one should blog for themselves; however, I wanted to help others. I can journal to get my own thoughts. BUT, what bothered me was I did RAOKs to people who don't follow this blog because I got zero responses from the half dozen or so followers. Somehow I thought at least one person would respond, and I would send them some of the makeup and hair products I haven't used.
Instead, I sent some to ladies on a forum about hair, and I could have gotten $300 or more on eBay; however, I sent it to random posters. Sadly, I don't know if they received the items or not. I don't want a thank you, I guess I hate not knowing if they received their gifts and if they, in fact, like them. It's been over a week, and nothing.
Incidently, I could not figure out why my bank account wasn't showing the money I earned from eBay via PayPal. I logged onto my account there and I guess the money sits there until you transfer it, so I did. $483.00 in a week for stuff I have siting around. I don't know what is wrong with me, but I haven't spent any of the money on anything and I don't feel motivated to. The country is in an economic crisis and I have money I don't want to spend. In addition, it's a Saturday and I've only been out with my dog and that is it.
I guess I think this blog may close, and I may simply begin a different journey. I don't want my blog to be for my benefit, it's to help others; however, if I'm not doing that, it serves me to establish another form of giving. In the items I sent out the past two days, I threw in full size product extras and that felt really good. I hope it makes them smile, I also added a thank you note.
When I took the dog out to potty we walked down to the post and there was a check for me from the state of California. I will add that to my RAOK account and maybe I can establish a fund for some organization I believe in.
I guess I need to learn not to take rejection personally. Life always has a plus though, I have 100% feedback as a seller on eBay so those items can go to a good home, but I am embarassed by the amount I still have. What was I thinking? Seriously, I have enough pigments to fill a land mine and these:

I have never even used other than to swatch because I'm trying to use up the shadesticks I have. Well, eBay and MakeupAlley here I come :)

In honor of appreciation, I would like to send gift bags to those of you who have been kind enough to sub to this blog. Not because I want a following, but I sincerely appreciate any and all support from people who don't know me.
Leave a comment and tell me what one beauty item you can't live with out and why. I will be sending you gifts catered to your response.
You have until midnight Friday, July 18th.

Meow for now,

In honor of appreciation, I would like to send gift bags to those of you who have been kind enough to sub to this blog. Not because I want ...

bail you out of jail and tell you what you did was wrong, but a true friend will be sitting right there next to you and say, "Damn we really f*cked up!"

Cherubs,

I have been thinking a lot about the value of friendship. Some say it's like good health, you never appreciate it until it's gone. Me? I think I'm a sad case in that, I am over having friends the way I did as a little girl.
Although we moved ALOT I always managed to meet one girl who was deemed my "best friend." When I was young, we would play all day and break to accomodate our parents, then we'd play some more until it was time to eat dinner, then more play and bed time. I would do this all summer long on a rinse and repeat schedule.
Once I got into school I had friends, but my bestie was the mate I would share all my secrets with. Who I fancied, my favorite singer, my problems at home, etc. As I got older, I learnt that sometimes we must learn who we deem to confide in. I think this is when we learn the danger of gossip. Gossip is something that can take on a form to the point where some people are so ashamed and hurt they don't want to go to school or live. I can't tell you how many adults I know who were bullied in their school years. It's really sad, because we don't start out that way. Sure there are some psychologically off kids out there who are determined to make other people miserable; however, children are generally seeking acceptance.
There are so many lonely people in the world and there need not be. I know I get the twinge of jealousy when I see a group of girls shopping together. I miss the days of hanging out with the girls, shopping, having lunch and mingling "A la Sex and the City" but it's not happening for me.
I think as we get older we spend less time facilitating or even nurturing friendships. It's quite sad most people look to computers or other technology to create friendships. We text, IM, or rely on Myspace and Facebook to keep in touch with friends. I read about some people who have over a hundred thousand "friends" on social sites. How the hell do you have that many friends? Wouldn't you lose track of things like, birthdays, graduations, and other important events? How do you decide what car to drive for you and your thousands of "friends" when you go to a movie or dinner?
I don't know, but it seems like the importance of giving back to people is losing against the narcissism of being all about self importance. I could be wrong, but it saddens me to know there are people who don't feel connected to others and are just existing rather than living.
I hope people learn, given there is a war going on, people are losing their homes, jobs and there is no end in sight, how to connect and support one another because, after all, no one is meant to be alone. We weren't created to be alone and all it takes is a smile to get a friendship started.
My challenge for you, get out and start living. Find someone, anyone who enjoys doing what you do and spend time with them. Build a friendship and cherish them as you would a plant and watch it harvest.

Happy Hump Day Cherubs!

It's been said hell hath no fury like a woman scorned, but our Diva Mrs. Nick Cannon aka Mariah Carey is about to give Marshall Mathers a taste of his own medicine.
Mariah appeared as a man for her upcoming video to her hit "Obsessed," which is a response his slam at her and her husband.
If my memory serves me correct, since Eminem and Mariah's alleged romance years ago during his first divorce from his wife, the two have been taking their beef to the recording studios left and right. I guess it's a creative outlet for song/recording artists to express themselves much like drawing, painting, and other outlets people use to communicate.
I think she makes an interesting bloke to be honest. I didn't recognize her when I saw the photograph. The next thing I wondered was, "Who was the makeup artist responsible for the transformation?" Can you imagine having the talent to turn this:
to this:

That's some talent! Not saying the makeup artist who makes her look good daily isn't talented, but special fx is a different skill. You have to take something or someone and change it from one image to a completely different image and trick the eye using prosthetics and makeup. That can take hours and believe me, working on someone for even an hour gets tiring, with the touching up, retouching and making sure you've completed the "look."
Let's just hope these two learn that forgiveness is the only way to really let go of hurt, pain or negative feelings.

Meow for now kittens and tomcats!

Hello Kittens,

I came up with this topic yesterday sitting in traffic on my way home from work. Lately, I'm really not feeling my job. For the past year, I have been counting my blessings thanking God I have a job to go to. This past week, not so much.
All my life, I have been one of those people who people feel telling their innermost secrets to. I am flattered yet curious at the same time about this. I find it really interesting many people have no problem opening up to me, inspite of me not being one to share my innermost with.
Well, in addition to being a good listener, for a long time I have been sensitive toward other people. That's not accurate. Here's an example. The other day, I had a feeling my co-worker was not happy even though she took a promotion. For some reason, I had a feeling she was going to quit. I mentioned this to another co-worker who told me I was wrong because the person in question had been wanting the promotion for a year. I never mentioned it again, but I still had this strange feeling our soon to be boss, was soon to be gone.
The next morning whilst touring our new location, the person in question notified us she was taking another position somewhere else. The rest of the staff was shocked, open mouthed and firing question after question. I didn't say anything. I felt sick about it. Naturally, my co-worker accused me of having information and holding out. I had no information other than a feeling.
This happens to me a lot. I will hear the phone ring and sense bad news. I can tell when people are happy, sad, depressed etc. What's more, their energy will tranfer to me. I'm not clairvoyant, don't follow witchcraft nor do I have any crystal balls.
In fact, I thought everyone had a sixth sense or had "hunches" but never spoke about them.
Now, I am known for this and though it's quite funny, it's very sad. People think it's a cool trick to say, "So and so is going to do x, y and z and it happens." On the other hand, having a hollow feeling in your stomach at night and not being able to sleep worrying about a friend only to call them and find out they just lost their job, had a row with their man, or is depressed gets really old.
While I go back and celebrate my colleagues departure, think about what "gifts" you have you may not know about. Are you good at guessing peoples age? Have you consistently won playing the lottery? Think about things you do other people think is "luck" and delve further. Are you lucky? Or are you simply gifted?

Have a great weekend!

Are you Gifted?

Hello Kittens, I came up with this topic yesterday sitting in traffic on my way home from work. Lately, I'm really not feeling my job. ...

Hello Kittens!

Today I'm writing to encourage you to venture to a web zine I stumbled upon. doedeereblogazine while researching a topic. As a black woman, I admit I was not one of the Angela Davis, "Say it loud, I'm black and I'm proud" little girls growing up. It's a shame to admit that but that was then, and I reckon it was because all of my Afrocentric features were things I got picked on as a kitten. We all overcome and learn from things in our past, but today I struggle with accepting mainstream society has a love affair with those same features. I won't go into the hair chronicles, but I do question, "Why is it called weaves for blacks and extensions for whites?" I digress.
My hips and bum were too big, my nose was too wide, my skin too dark, and my curves were "fat." When I ran upon the editor of this blog, it reminded me of how beautiful pale skin was to me as a little girl. Today, I see women who don't like being so pale or "transparent" as they are called. Why? It's just as wrong to be disturbed by very fair skin as it was darker skin. It seems that society has to find a way to make people not feel acceptable the way they are. All complexions are beautiful and that's how I feel. The black panther, the white tiger and all the gorgeous varieties in between are beautiful as they are created. Why must we change our skin to be lighter or darker?
I really resent myself but forgive myself for thinking I had to look like Barbie. I applaud all you felines who grew up believing and loving yourself, but it was difficult to love me, when the world around me didn't. I think at the most, even in university, there were three other blacks in my classes. I was always exposed to white communities. It may have been television, movies, magazines, my neighborhood, as well as church, but I was always the one minority girl and it felt horrible.
Now I'm speaking on behalf of my white tigers, the porcelain princesses out there. Love your beauty and accept your coloring. I relate to you in the quest for the "right" foundation and feeling like your complexion needs to be different than what it is.
I read that Dita Von Teese wears foundation lighter than her God given skin tone just to get that porcelain trademark she's famous for. I love seeing the contrast of black and white. I think it's beautiful; however, both have a bond even if it's unspoken.
In short felines, there is no "perfect" look, doll, style, body, or any of that. People are altering their bodies to have something you don't like about yourself. Look at her:

she's got the best of both worlds and I think she's perfect. We really need to start a movement of accepting ourselves and stop looking at our reflection and seeing the airbrushed images of celebrities, fashion models or whomever looking back at us. Raise your paw and say aloud, "I love myself the way I am, this is what makes me unique. I'm not like you, don't you wish you were like me? Too bad, God only made one of me, therefore I must represent on behalf of myself :)"

Keep your paw and head up!

Hey Kittens,
I have had a love/unhappy (hate is not healthy)relationship with YouTube and was really, really not feeling some of these "gurus." Now don't get me wrong, anyone with a computer can register and become a guru and their is a skill level and market for every look but I get turned off when gurus forget that they once had half a dozen subscribers, seem to post videos for other gurus or the makeup art gets lost in whatever drama that seems to find it's way into the "community." There are a couple ladies I have stumbled upon, and their inner beauty is so transparent and they are so genuine, when I finish watching their videos, I feel good, or I am excited they post more. Vegas Diamond28 has been on of those ladies. She is extremely beautiful, she has a husband, two beautiful daughters, and whilst she is not catered to one look, style or approach, her channel will leave you feeling good about yourself. I am really happy for her happiness in life, and she reminds me that good things happen when you put good energy and love into the world. She's a real blessing and I hope you will check her out!

Hey Kittens, I have had a love/unhappy (hate is not healthy)relationship with YouTube and was really, really not feeling some of these ...

Hiya,
I didn't have anything about all things beauty today. Unfortunately, today was one of those lick your wounds in the forest days. I am really thinking a lot about some of the decisions I make, things, people, career, and other values I hold and wondering if they are, in fact, representative of my character.
I read a wonderful article in a beauty magazine and it was about the "New Narcissist" and it forced me to think about all the superficial things I engage in such as: beauty blogs, beauty forums, makeup, hair, Youtube makeup tutorials by so called "gurus" and the social networks of Twitter, Facebook, and Myspace and it all seems so fake. I want to encourage others to love themselves, but not at the price of exploitation. I am dedicated to this blog and it will always be about positive encouragement and inner beauty, but it's really true that the line between beauty in ugly is very, very fine.
In addition, I have been reading about social injustices, and it really left me with a bit of a challenge to post about beauty today, but not to worry, I will be back with more for my lovely felines and tom cats.

Apologies Cherubs

by on 3:16 PM
Hiya, I didn't have anything about all things beauty today. Unfortunately, today was one of those lick your wounds in the forest days. ...
Hello Cherubs!
How many more days until Christmas...? I know, "It's the most wonderful time of the year...." But I'm not feeling it felines, I really can't shake this.
I was prowling about this weekend and saw a woman in a craft store and haven't shaken the "experience" yet. The cashier was being indignant and decided to call for back up on my return. I have finally gotten strong enough to return things, I no longer fear the wrath, disdain or often misplaced frustration of the sales assistants; however, when back up came, I noticed she had the prettiest blue eyeshadow on. So, what's the big deal? The young lady was absolutely beautiful in an ever so innocent way. She was not the stereotypical beauty. Being that I think CONSTANTLY, I kept looking at her and her shadow was a bold blue, not blended and what's more, she had glasses quite thick so it was making the shimmer muted. I also noticed she had dark facial hair on her chin, but for some reason she had the most angelic face. I know it may sound smug to point out flaws but define her as beautiful, as if I am so perfect.
The point precious, is I see beauty in everyone and what society may see as a flaw, I can recognize it's there, but that does not have to mean a person is less beautiful. I've always thought the "beautiful people" were meh, but love the unconventional looks most women struggle with.
I really wonder how many of us want to change our appearance based on societal images, not realizing those "flaws" may be what make us unique? I have never been the "beautiful one" hence, my love for cosmetics. It was a way for me to change my appearance as well as a method of communicating. Since I tend to be extremely introverted and analytical, I found by turning the focus on someone else would take the pressure off me.
It is my hope people will finally get over the outside world and focus on how they contribute as a person. Makeup is absolutely fun, I love the skills I have learned, working with others, watching transformations, but it doesn't define anyone, it washes off and the real feline is still lovely.

Cheers,

B.P.
