The past two weeks have been all sorts of bad.  I have, literally, wondered, "What's it all for?"  The light at the end of the tunnel was a train, and there was nothing I could do.  I didn't want to do anything.  I seriously applied for no less than ten jobs in several countries.  I could not get my aim right, if I stood in front of a dart board with the dart in my hand.  Sports?  My teams lost.  Romance? *laughs hysterically* Over it. Job? Covered that. I didn't even return calls to do bridal work and that's the easiest, most boring money.  I have not twittered, I'd see friends on Facebook and log off so I didn't have to interact.  I have never been so desperate and full of despair.  I think it was a combination of things, but I knew, it was coming.  Usually there is a certain week in the month where I know I will endure an "uncomfortable" (shitty) emotion.  Nothing is right, but nothing is really wrong.  I hope no one ever feels this way.  I did everything.  I called a therapist.  She can see me next month around the 12th.  I started exercising, only to stare at my flaws whilst breathing in and out.  I logged onto a dating site and immediately canceled.  Have you seen what's out there?  I'm glad I didn't succumb in that many aren't looking for a date they are looking for straight up sex.
How did I shake it?  I hope this can help someone.  I know what didn't work.  Don't watch YouTube beauty tutorials.  That is the fastest most accurate way to feel left out (see above photo).  Don't rent any romantic comedy.  In the end, the girl gets the guy.  Do you really need that when you're down and feeling empty?  Don't Tweet unless it's to those people you are SURE are going to reply.  I honestly gave so many shout outs and heard more crickets than I would if I were in Texas heat at dusk.  Don't read a romance novel.  Do you really want all the intricacies of how a simple girl next door meets a wealthy billionaire to have kids and travel?  It doesn't happen that way, but it's good when your not "in that place."
What the F*CK did you do?
I cried a lot.  I really did.  I felt sorry for myself, and took everything personal in the world.  Then...I made a list of all the things I was sad, anxious, afraid, etc. of and then took a nap.
I made a plan for each thing I wanted to change and had the ability to change.  Don't try to change people.
I called my father to talk about my mother's illness and ask how he copes.
I treated myself to Starbucks, and didn't feel guilty for it.  Sat outside and people watched.
I took a walk with my dog.  Fresh air and something that thinks everything simple is exciting.
Listened to music online from another country.  I love  that France doesn't edit the bad words, and that in Russia there are so many different types of House music.
I made friend requests on Facebook to people who have common interests as me as well as celebrities.  Will I really, be their friend fuck yeah of course not, it's probably fake, but it made me ☺ when they accepted.
I did absolutely nothing and watched cheesy shows like Jersey Shore and every cities Housewives.

Remember, feelings aren't facts and they aren't permanent.  Every so often, we need to have some down time in order to assess where we are and where we want to go.  The worst thing to do is to suppress the emotions, they will only surface in another form.  It's okay to feel bad.  In spite of all the positive psycho pop out there, people are human and we have feelings, and like a liver filters the body, our mind will filter our soul.
If need be, write to me, I love it and I care.
xoxo

So....I have not been able to blog for a good long time.  I love to have a place of my own to extend positions which don't bode well on my regularly scheduled "forums" but, I'm getting really tired of the hypocrisy in the beauty industry.  I've spent the last week in the ICU with both parents.  So, I think that could be some of my frustration *disclaimer to exit now*
Well, seeing people so raw and vulnerable is heartbreaking.  My mum taught me the proper techniques with makeup for an age appropriate young adult.  I was in high school and could wear mascara, lipstick and powder.  I did what the rest of us addicts did and put on all the other crap when I got to school.  She always knew, but I felt the need to look "cute."  As I'm aging, I'm thinking of all the work it takes for one to have a full face.  Every application precedes with a "primer" that promises to enhance the product.  Why not make a mascara that lengthens or volumizes as opposed to a primer to boost my mascara?  Or, do I really need a moisturizer, sunscreen, primer, mattifier, and corrector to get my foundation right?  Seriously?  Just pause...think for a second?  Do you really think it takes all those steps to get those lashes in the adverts?  Of course not!  The falsies, mascara and boom you're done.  Makeup artists do not have time to do all those steps, believe me.  Why?  Because I don't have the billions of followers, ad revenue or endorsements.  I can't lose what I don't have.  Real talk, if you've seen some of the "commercials" on YouTube, you will see a pattern.  Do you think Hot Miami Styles (HMS) is making as much money as they are spending to promote their tacky clothes?  If you are into those looks great, but don't invest money thinking you're going to get more than a few wears.  Screw it!  Bypass HMS, who is a few paces below F21, and find an Asian owned boutique and you can get the same thing.  What's more, those clothes are ugly.  Only a few look like they fit properly, and the dresses are too short!  If you're wearing a dress that hits your thigh when you stand, you deserve to be called out and no, no one's jealous, you just look trashy.  Just because one can, doesn't mean you should.
Embrace your flaws.  As long as we keep buying these things which are nothing more than snake oil, they will continue to saturate the market.  We, as consumers, are stupid enough to get on the bandwagon and "make it work!"  Make things work if you have it already,  but if you go buy something and it already needs work, put it back.  See Madge?  She doesn't looks so hot in the photo on the left right?  Well, she is over fifty years old, she has three children, probably runs a few businesses, not to mention her music, humanitarian efforts, work outs, events, and trying to get a social life.  Again, she's 50 and has been in the "life" for almost thirty years.  So, if you're in your twenties and living life in the fast lane, add the marriages, tabloids, extreme diets, etc. what do you think you would look like during a photo shoot that probably was early in the morning fresh from the airport, with jetlag et al?  Exactly, but since we don't want to acknowledge wrinkles, we photoshop the images, and lie and say that the person has a skin cream that Egyptian monks pray over, and is laced with real gold from the fountain of youth.  GMAFB!  Stop it!  Not because I have anything to gain, but as long as we sign up for it, and believe it, they will continue to sell this crap and leave our self worth in their accounts.  We should be appreciated for who we are as a whole, not just physically.  I find it sad George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Johnny Depp, Simon Cowell and many more, are praised as these sex gods who get the gorgeous girls, but if a woman does the same, she's "past it."  Look how desperate these housewives look in trying to stay twenty.  We age, let's live a good life, and know that we don't have to be the fairest, the thinnest, or the richest to have value.  Snap out of it, in fact, stop trying to be anyone you aren't because you are fine just as you are.  Believe it!

I saw this on my Yahoo page and was feeling ambivalent.  I've grown up knowing that no matter how many, lip, ass, breast implants, the tanning, and the weaves, white will always be the "preferred" race even when it is emulating black.  Sure, we can adopt refugees from Haiti, Africa and other non Eurpean countries, but as long as your phenotype is lilly white, you will get preferential treatment in the media.  It's sad but true.  If a white woman has a fit she's "stressed" but if a black woman does the same, she's ghetto, hood, etc.  Now look at the girls VF has selected for their Hollywood 2010 feature.  The only thing dark is the hair on three of the nine actresses.  No Zoe, no Freida, no color. Black, Asian, Middle Eastern, et al; not one honorable mention.  It looks like a scene from Scarlet O'Hara but at least they had a black maid!  What's more, these ladies aren't even near the talent of Streisand, Lange, Mirren aka the real white Hollywood.  Seriously, I get that I'm just a girl who writes and my opinion doesn't matter, but I AM society!  I am the person who pays for their films, their music, they are marketing to my demographic and it's bad enough many of the adverts don't have foundations which represent women of all colors fair and dark equally, but now in 2010, I'm told that Hollywood is white, thin, rich and it doesn't matter whether you can act or sing because if you are cute we can market you and manufacture your style if necessary.  Shame on Vanity Fair and anyone who tries to tell me, "it's no big deal they have a right to put whoever they want on their magazine."  Well, guess what, I have gone to school, college, watched films, been taught etc, everything white my whole life, and until your world is where you have ALWAYS been a minority, you lose the right to tell me differently.  Especially when I see men who are livin the urban life, but would never wife a sister.  This was not something I planned to write about, but it's my job, my passion to take a stand about things that society says are wrong in an attempt to sell a facade which doesn't exist.  Women come in all sizes, shapes and colors, unlike the ads and commercial (L'Oreal) where we are all light, thin and aesthetically pleasing.

I have such mixed views on today's post.  I am sitting here and really thinking about blogging and it's funny that last evening I was watching someone promote their blog and the word alone sounds disgusting.  But, I was thinking, this person follows zero bloggers, has nearly 150,000 video subscribers, follows zero Twitterers and responds to....wait for it....zero comments.  Makes sense, her job is to earn a living via social networking and it is a lot of work gaining, maintaining and evolving with such a high status on the web.
So, I thought about my purpose.  I don't know what it is, so I stumbled upon a lovely videographer on ...YouTube (trying to quit the addiction) and she's amazing.
So, unfortunately, I am not using my own material to engage the few followers I have.  But, only part of my purposed for blogging is having followers, I am never going to be "that Blog" and thank the good Lord for that, but I do love the opportunity to learn and read other blogs.  They are so personal and I learn more there and at MUA than I do on any other forum.
Shira J. is so cool!  I have such a love for her channel, though she's in dispose with her "baby daddy" right now.  Why?  She makes me think, makes me laugh, gets me to not take myself so serious and I wish I were more like her.  Without sounding stalkerish, I wish I had a friend like her I could interact with. I have always been a free thinker and love dialogue from people of all backgrounds.  My greatest compliment was when and Aryan (sp) Brother told me he would be seen at the mall with me.  He is who he is, but a black girl who took an interest in why he chose to be in the brotherhood and listened to his view whilst not judging him.  He's quite smart, and I did learn something from him whether I agreed with him or not.
Right, Shira J.  She is the person I aim to be in terms of self confidence, esteem and the ability to not care what people think.  Sure, I say I don't care about others' opinion of me, but that's rubbish.  In my brain it hurts when people are mean spirited, judgmental, and say hurtful things to or about me.  Shira has been there and done that, but she wants to help others.  So many people are doing things under the guise of "helping others" but there is a "what's in it for me after taste."  I respect the ones who admit it.  I want more viewers so I can be a partner and have some recognition and maybe money or perks in the process.  Or, I want to get a makeup line, be sponsored, get free stuff et. al.  Shira doesn't do that.  In addition, she addresses so many topics of interest, I don't know how she stays focused (at times she doesn't) but you can clearly see she is having fun, yet very passionate about people.
Her channel has something for everyone.  I thought of Susan Powter when I watched her because Susan's blog talk radio personality is similar.  Susan is about not being stupid and Shira is about "Get Smart."  Her channel is about: spirituality, beauty, hair, nails, style, relationships, careers, education, dating, family, self esteem, race, gender, disabilities, and more.  She doesn't have a "studio" with high tech cameras, lighting, editing and so on.  She turns the camera on and the fun begins.  SugarFreeTV is an acquired taste.  You do have to have an openmind.  I included the clip I watched a few times.  She will ask the questions, and answer them, and the questions you think she won't (Shira, my hair doesn't grow, I have a nub, I don't have your hair texture) she has your back and will address it.  It's as if she's reading your mind.  What's more, she enjoys herself and it comes across and if the world were more sugar free we wouldn't have soldiers in other countries fighting but I digress. Get smart! :)

I have such mixed views on today's post.  I am sitting here and really thinking about blogging and it's funny that last evening...

Hello Beautiful,
Today is my first day of the rest of my blog. I have changed the name and format to bring about a new birth.
The old style was good and sufficient, but I'm working toward something aimed to cover all areas of beauty. I realize a lot of us are constantly working at our physical (phenotype) appearance and while that is fabulous, I'd like to venture into making us beautiful people as a whole.
What good is our external if we don't accept ourselves internally?
I will still bring all I can about what's in, what's out, as well as the latest makeup collections, fashion trends and beauty tips and tricks, not to mention my lastest obsession nail varnish.
I plan to incorporate more articles dedicated to motivating you all to become the women and men God created you to be. You are a blessing, and I need you to know that even when you don't feel it. I know I struggle from time to time, so today we are going to commit to working together and encouraging each other to live life to the fullest and look good in the process.
Whether we get a product we have been dying to try and find out it's pants (rubbish) or we want to look better naked, this is the place, so grab a cup of coffee, a notepad, and let's get cracking on our Beauty Thesis!

A New Beginning

Hello Beautiful, Today is my first day of the rest of my blog. I have changed the name and format to bring about a new birth. The old styl...

I have never been one to comprehend mean spirited people. Even as a child, I never understood when kids would pick on other kids. When the kid was me, I felt it was because of the usual. Black, chubby, female, dumb, new kid, and so on.
What I am learning as an adult is that those people truly never grew up. The names and faces are different but the behavior is the same.
This is a topic I really thought I would never address. I think people use the term "hater" far too often. I get that not everyone will like what I say, how I look or how I dress. I see the stares, the rolled eyes and it really doesn't affect the way I choose to dress. What I don't understand is when people take it to a graduated level. I'm talking the level of trying to get you fired, starting rumours about you or your family and even spreading lies. That can only be called hate, I can't think of any reason a person would go for the jugular of another, especially if they don't know them.
I visit a few forums to get ideas on clothing, style, beauty et al. I like to research and sometimes interact with other members. What I don't understand is when a member gets an attitude towards another member on a forum. Most times I find it funny. I actually like some of the more aggressive boards because those people can cut you with their tongue and not miss a beat. In addition, there are some quite intelligent people who post and it's quite refreshing to learn something new each day.
I even have to look within myself at times, as there is a woman, much older than me, married with a son and she goes out of her way to make me and others try to feel small. Why? I can honestly say she lives a sheltered life. Her husband works which allows her to be online all day (another topic for another post). She thinks her husband is the sun and moon and will not hesitate for a moment to express her opinion about anything and everything.
Now, I could blast her @ss and it would be an enormous weight off my shoulders. I know I would have her in tears not to mention rethinking some of the decisions she makes in her life. The point is, I don't. I don't say a word. She responded to me in a post, and I gave her a pass. I could have made her look small, pathetic, and uneducated not to mention give her a reason to not trust her younger husband, but I shook it off. That's what people need to learn to do with "haters." You must shake them off. Giving power to people who have no impact on your day to day life is a waste of energy. If they are people you must have contact with, keep it brief and keep it moving. Your hater(s) will begrudge you and begin the next level of attack but raise your security level and be prepared for the disaster. In time, he/she will get bored and move on to the next victim. But you have to let them go. Trust me, they will try to provoke, stir and wreak havoc on you, but do not let them steal your joy.
You answer to one person and you have to live with yourself, what happens to us and around us we have no control over, but what we do about it is our responsibility. Let them hate, but just do you. In time, you will feel pity on them. While they're busy plotting, you're busy living.

Roaring along

Hello Cherubs,
I feel compelled to discuss the topic of pore size. I loathe my pores. In my field, I'm exposed to some of the most breathtaking aesthetically pleasing people all day long. To be quite honest, this tends to take its toll on me over the course of the week and that's why on weekends, I don't blog. I give myself that small part of the week to not think about trends, upcoming collections in clothes, jewelery, makeup, shoes, bags and so on. It's too much and I really admire people who are truly comfortable in their skin.
I have been reading a lot about products and their claims. I've mentioned the goal of marketing is to get you to buy product(s). No matter how catchy, implied, colorful, etc. the ends don't justify the means if you don't buy the product. Sometimes that means one must make someone feel inadequate. For instance, if I want to sell a skincream to you, I'm going to tell you how your skin will improve if you use this cream. I'm going to you someone with the most amazing skin and tell you they use the product and they too had (insert whatever skin issue) too until they found (insert product name).
One of my big concerns if the skin on my face. It's oily, sometimes it's dry, I have large pores and I have spent a small house on creams that offer promises to get rid of my large pores.
Stop! You cannot change the size of your pores! Say that again to yourself and if you aren't convinced, do research on a forum, website or search anything pertaining to dermatology, skin, and not products. If you click on a product, it's going to "sell" you into believing there is a remedy. There isn't, there is just gimmicks all over to convince you there is a miracle in a bottle, jar, elixir, etc.
Why? Pores provide the natural oils to keep your skin hydrated. The amount of sebum your body produces is directly related to the size and appearance of your pores. Over active oil glands will swell the pores and once this has occurred, you can't erase what's been done.
What then? You can shrink your pores temporarily by unclogging the oil and particles (build up) which cause them to stretch. Their are toners, and astringents which can remove the buildup, but get something with alpha hydroxy, salicyclic acid, retinoids, and BHA can all help to minimize the appearance temporarily. Again, the pores will swell as they become clogged by dirt and bacteria, oil within the pore begins to accumulate, causing the pore’s diameter to expand thus the increase in the look of the pores once again.
Microdermabrasion can help those who have large pores as well as old acne scars, but it will not eliminate your pores completely.
This post is not meant to dampen or challenge the effectiveness of treatments, but to educate you all on your skin before you waste money hoping for a miracle.
Remember, we all have flaws, and you can survive with large pores in society, many faces who have covered magazines have had imperfect complexions. To read more, click here and find out ways to make the best of your skin. All hope is not lost, most people don't see your flaws they see you and really, as long as you're keeping a regimen for your body, mind and soul, the size of your pores will become less of an issue.

Stay beautiful!

Hello Kittens!

Today I'm writing to encourage you to venture to a web zine I stumbled upon. doedeereblogazine while researching a topic. As a black woman, I admit I was not one of the Angela Davis, "Say it loud, I'm black and I'm proud" little girls growing up. It's a shame to admit that but that was then, and I reckon it was because all of my Afrocentric features were things I got picked on as a kitten. We all overcome and learn from things in our past, but today I struggle with accepting mainstream society has a love affair with those same features. I won't go into the hair chronicles, but I do question, "Why is it called weaves for blacks and extensions for whites?" I digress.
My hips and bum were too big, my nose was too wide, my skin too dark, and my curves were "fat." When I ran upon the editor of this blog, it reminded me of how beautiful pale skin was to me as a little girl. Today, I see women who don't like being so pale or "transparent" as they are called. Why? It's just as wrong to be disturbed by very fair skin as it was darker skin. It seems that society has to find a way to make people not feel acceptable the way they are. All complexions are beautiful and that's how I feel. The black panther, the white tiger and all the gorgeous varieties in between are beautiful as they are created. Why must we change our skin to be lighter or darker?
I really resent myself but forgive myself for thinking I had to look like Barbie. I applaud all you felines who grew up believing and loving yourself, but it was difficult to love me, when the world around me didn't. I think at the most, even in university, there were three other blacks in my classes. I was always exposed to white communities. It may have been television, movies, magazines, my neighborhood, as well as church, but I was always the one minority girl and it felt horrible.
Now I'm speaking on behalf of my white tigers, the porcelain princesses out there. Love your beauty and accept your coloring. I relate to you in the quest for the "right" foundation and feeling like your complexion needs to be different than what it is.
I read that Dita Von Teese wears foundation lighter than her God given skin tone just to get that porcelain trademark she's famous for. I love seeing the contrast of black and white. I think it's beautiful; however, both have a bond even if it's unspoken.
In short felines, there is no "perfect" look, doll, style, body, or any of that. People are altering their bodies to have something you don't like about yourself. Look at her:

she's got the best of both worlds and I think she's perfect. We really need to start a movement of accepting ourselves and stop looking at our reflection and seeing the airbrushed images of celebrities, fashion models or whomever looking back at us. Raise your paw and say aloud, "I love myself the way I am, this is what makes me unique. I'm not like you, don't you wish you were like me? Too bad, God only made one of me, therefore I must represent on behalf of myself :)"

Keep your paw and head up!

Hello Kittens! Today I'm writing to encourage you to venture to a web zine I stumbled upon. doedeereblogazine while researching a topic...

Hello Beautiful,
I have been perusing many of the forums, blogs, and YouTube channels and I am really finding something on my heart cherubs. In all of this talk about the best mascara, the best foundation, and the next line of cosmetic trends and fashions for spring, I realize my goal has NEVER been to promote the ideology that people are not okay as they are. I believe it's great to purchase bath oils, fragrance, shoes, cosmetics, et al. but I don't believe people need to be anymore than their best self. So, this is a bit of a disclaimer for this blog.
In addition, I'm not a popular blogger, YouTuber, makeup artist etc., on the web, but I know the person I am in my daily life and the goal I have for myself and others, and it has to do with looking, feeling and obtaining your best. I don't care if I have a huge amount of buzz, but I really do care about promoting self esteem.
I guess the panther is needing to unburden her heart as I think of the next stage of where I want the things I speak, promote or represent to be perceived. My hope is not for subscribers, but I want to create a network of people, primarily women as that is what I understand, who can share their stories, lift one another up, and be a support system for each other.

Love yourself and love others,
